Report on Our Participation in the Smart City Expo World Congress 2022 at Barcelona, Spain
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government held an exhibit at the Smart City Expo World Congress 2022 (hereafter referred to as “SCEWC2022”) and introduced to overseas smart city stakeholders what makes Tokyo an appealing and distinct smart city in order to further improve its presence.
On the day of the event, many smart city experts, local municipalities, and private companies, including startups, came from across the world to participate, making this a very successful event. Through such opportunities, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government plans to continue to try and improve the international competitiveness of its city.

Keynote Session

Opening the Future of Cities through SusHi Tech from Tokyo

Using “Sustainable High City Tech Tokyo = SusHi Tech Tokyo” as a keyword, Vice Governor Manabu Miyasaka took the podium and introduced the technologies in infrastructures that allows cities to respond to climate change and the initiatives of Tokyo to become more sustainable and resilient city by utilizing such technologies. He also explained the importance of open innovation amongst cities.

“SusHi Tech Tokyo” creates “sustainable new value” that could overcome global urban challenges by utilizing cutting-edge technology as well as diverse ideas and digital know-how.
Tokyo will present to the world that “SusHi Tech Tokyo” could update cities around the world to become more sustainable and inclusive, with not a single person left behind, for the next generation to come.

Side event hosted by the ICEX(España Exportacion e Inversiones)

We participated in the side event hosted by the ICEX (España Exportacion e Inversiones) to connect with local startups. At this event, Vice Governor Manabu Miyasaka took the podium to introduce the initiatives to support startups as well as our hopes and expectations for the startups to solve social issues in Tokyo. The local startups also pitched to introduce us their solutions and services for mutual understanding.

Tokyo Metropolitan Government Booth

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government booth was set up in a part of the Japan Pavilion and shared what initiatives Tokyo had undertaken, including Smart Tokyo, and what makes our city so attractive to many people.

DISSEMINATION OF EFFORTS BY THE LEADING AREA

We provided an overview of Smart Tokyo and shared what progress had been made in expanding this initiative. Our aim was to increase understanding of what smart city strategies and initiatives had been implemented in Tokyo and to improve its presence globally.
We also took this opportunity to share what initiatives were being implemented as a part of Smart Tokyo in the “leading areas” and introduced an overview of the initiatives taking place in each area of Tokyo.

DISSEMINATION OF INITIATIVES IN THE 3 TOKYO METROPOLITAN AREA

Three areas that had been selected as leading areas within Tokyo’s urban region also held exhibitions as distinct examples of smart city initiatives that were taking place in the Tokyo Metropolitan Area. There, we spoke about the city OS and smart services that we are building together with various stakeholders.
